La muerte se acerca... no temas, no llores, enjuaga tus lágrimas.

Tomolo aquel ángel en brazos, logro también abrazarla. Vibraron los nervios de bronce, del lecho: vibro el que expiraba. ¡OH! cuando yo quise prestarle socorro a la esposa, se hallaba opresa en los brazos del muerto tal cual si quisiera llevarsela! ¡Que esfuerzo inaudito hice entonces y como he podido arrancarla al fin de los rígidos brazos, llorosa, sin fuerza y flácida. Y cuando despues del esfuerzo volví hacia el muerto la cara lo vi con los ojos en círculo Cual si me pidiese abrazarla, y como diciendome, mudo, con una sonrisa macabra

¡SI ES MIA!... ¿POR QUE TE LA LLEVAS? ¡SI ES MIA!... ¿POR QUE ME LA ARRANCAS?

en tanto, lloraban los niños, los perros, en mis brazos lanzaba suspiros con ansias el muerto los abrazo en circulo sonriendo la esposa esperaba... ¡SEÑOR! ¿Por que el muerto reía en tanto los vivos lloraban? Que duro, que amargo recuerdo quedome de aquella desgracia si a soals en ella medito, Aun suelen saltarme las lágrimas...
